STARR FORD

Hello all,

I am from Southern California (Los Angeles) and I am currently studying at Humboldt State University. During these three months I am taking my classes online. Prior to leaving for Japan I thought this opportunity was too good to be true! I am truly grateful to be able to volunteer and be apart of this cultural exchange. My goal coming to teach English here in Hyogo is to gain more experience with children and see if teaching English is something I would want to continue doing in the future. I have not been disappointed. I am having a great time and am well taken care of. If you are looking to volunteer with this program feel free to contact me with any questions ford.starr10@gmail.com

MTTHEW STAFFORD

Hello everyone! My names Matthew Jordan Stafford. This is my first time in Japan which is a complete flip from where I am from(Long Beach, CA). I must begin by saying how happy I am to be here with so many great little children; it has been quite the learning experience for me but there is nothing more satisfying than sharing my native tongue with the kids. I hope that towards the end the children and I can have some small talk together in English! Yay :-) "がんばて!"

JESSICA LYNN WALTERS

Hello,
My name is Jessica Walters, I was born in Long Beach, California in the United States. My hobbies are studying Japanese, singing, guitar, riding my bike, and going to the beach. Ever since I was a little girl I have had a passion for teaching. When I was around 10 years old I would ask all of my friends to come over and play school so that I could be the teacher. Since I was born into a really big family, all of my life I have been surrounded by children. I have six nieces and two nephews. I feel very comfortable around kids because they bring me so much joy. Children are so innocent and sweet, and I believe that as adults, it is our job to set a good example for them, and lead them in the right direction. I believe that not only can we teach children, but that we can learn from them as well. We can learn to keep the same happiness and innocence that they have. Although I love teaching anyone, young or old, teaching children is my favorite because of their energy and spirit, their happiness, and innocence. Since October 2012, I have been teaching myself Japanese language, and studying Japanese culture. Since the day I began learning the Japanese language, I have become more and more fond of the Japanese people. For a while I wasn't sure what kind of job I wanted in my future, but as my passion for Japan, and my passion for children grew, it became more clear. I put two and two together, and from then my dream emerged into the forefront of my mind, I needed to become an ESL teacher for children in Japan. I began a search for a job in Japan, and I somehow came across the add for Koto Preschool, of course I was overjoyed! A few emails were sent back and forth, there was an interview, and now here I am sitting at a desk in Kamigori town, writing this biography. Words cannot describe how lucky I feel to be here! At first I was nervous, but from the first day the teachers and students here have become like family. I already feel so in love with my job here! Koto Preschool, the staff, and the students as well, have all showed so much kindness, generosity, and thoughtfulness, I feel so happy, and it's my wish to return the same happiness to the staff and students of Koto! I know that this is the start of an amazing journey, I can't wait to see how much the students learn, and how much I learn from them. I am really looking forward to applying all of my creativity to teaching the children English. I hope to make learning English as fun and rewarding as possible for them! Thank you so much Koto staff and students for making me feel at home here, and for treating me like family! I hope to bring the same amount of joy to you that you bring me! From now on, ganbarimasu!
